Looking at Laguna Gloria with Love

I love walking round and looking at the diverse sculpture at Laguna Gloria: part of the Contemporary Art Museum in Austin. The old house and gardens are nearly surrounded by water as the old Italianate House sits on a bend in the Colorado River. It is a romantic location with endless vistas and hidden gems of sculpture. There are staircases, benches in the shade and little docks onto the river. Its a place to get married or have a picnic. Blissful today despite the cold, as the sunshine lit it up and sparkled on the water..

But somehow, although I have taken pictures here many times before when I studied at the Art School, today I struggled.  My simple task to balance light, threw me off balance. Despite trying to solely concentrate on exposure, my photos came out over and underexposed: faces hidden in the shadows or  details bleached out. I feel frustrated flicking through them on my laptop. I reflect despondently that somehow images in my head never quite made it to the memory card in my Nikon D7200. Some get closer than others, but  only convey partly the beauty , peacefulness and joy of wandering and looking at the sculptures with my daughter, niece and father. Still here they are.
